Embossing, or convex printing, was for a long time the main method of plastic cards personalization. During that process signs are being stamped in the back side of the card so they bacome visible on the front side as convex signs.

Though recently magnetic stripes and barcodes have become popular, embossing still remains highly valued method of personalizing plastic cards during which personal data of card owner, serial number, date of validity, etc, are applied onto the card. Additional advantage of this method is possibility of dying received signs on metalic colours – gold or silver – which additionally raises attractiveness and value of the card.
